# Connecticut MCA Holds Masonary Seminar
The Mason Contractors Association of Connecticut is offering a seminar this fall on a topic of current interest to everyone in the masonry industry- highrise, loadbearing masonry design.
Dr. Fazlur Khan, AIA, a pioneer in the use of the new concept for highrise construction, will be main speaker for the seminar to be held October 23 at Valle's Restaurant in Hartford.
Dr. Khan, partner and chief structural engineer of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Chicago architectural and engineering firm, is designer of three of the world's tallest buildings. He is responsible for the development of new structural systems for reinforced concrete as well as a new composite system for tall buildings, combining the advantages of both reinforced concrete and steel construction in one.
Two men who are thoroughly familiar with loadbearing masonry design have agreed to present a program on its use for the seminar-Henry Toennies, vice president of technical services for the National Concrete Masonry Association, and Robert P. Anderson, P.E., assistant chief of engineering and research of the Brick Institute of America.
These three speakers will be joined by Frank J. Zamecnik, P.E., and Harvey White, AIA, for a panel discussion on this new concept in masonry construction.
A number of displays by several prominent suppliers of the masonry industry will be on view during the seminar, and the Connecticut Chapter of the American Institute of Architects will hold a membership meeting in conjunction with the event.
