New Arizona Officers
Bernie Farnum, sales representative for Arizona Portland Cement Co., has been installed as president of the Arizona Masonry Guild. Other newly elected officers are Kenneth Eriksen, Evertsen Masonry, vice president: Harold Greenberg, Dooley's Building Materials, secretary, and Ed Young, Sr., AAA Masonry, treasurer.
Texas Advertising Awards
Acme Brick and the Texas Masonry Institute have received first place awards from the Fort Worth Advertising Club for advertisements that appeared recently in Texas Architect. Selections were made from more than 450 entries submitted by advertisers and advertising agencies in the Fort Worth area.

Gordon G. Gwinn has been named vice president & general manager of Contech, Inc.'s Sonneborn Concrete Treatments Division, Minneapolis, Minn. Huber/Essick/Smith, manufacturer of a long line of concrete and mortar mixers and other construction machinery, has appointed James E. Wagner vice president of operations and William Weber director of materials. Thomas C. Young has joined Superlite Builders Supply, Inc., Phoenix, Ariz., as technical services manager. The appointment of Rollie Bevers as sales manager has been announced by J. K. Smit & Sons, Inc., Murray Hill, N.J., producer of diamond drills and saws for the construction and mining industries.
Evans Names Priest and da Cunha Vice Presidents
Two corporate vice presidential appointments have been announced by Robert G. Evans Co., Kansas City, Mo., manufacturer of "Target" masonry saw blades and related products for the construction industry.
Robert B. Priest, formerly assistant general sales manager, has been named executive vice president, and Ary da Cunha, has been elevated from director to vice president of international marketing.
In his new position Priest assumes executive responsibilities for sales, advertising, sales office and customer services, and product engineering and development. Da Cunha will be responsible for sales and marketing of the company's Target brand saws, blades and diamond drills in world markets.
Colorado Training Course
A training program for mason contractors and brick-block salesmen was sponsored by the Colorado Masonry Institute in Denver, March 4-6. Speakers for the three-day course were practicing professionals in the construction industry.
Construction Group Formed
In an effort to further technologies that will provide better buildings in less time and at lower cost, a group of public and private building owners and users have established the Construction Research Council as an independent, nonprofit organization headquartered in the District of Columbia.
Guidance in the formation of the group was provided by the National Research Council's Building Research Advisory Board.
MIM Elects Joel Lutz
Joel Lutz, vice president, Kanfer Construction Co., Inc., Oak Park, has been elected president of the Masonry Institute of Michigan for 1975.
Other officers elected by the board were: Frank Soave, F. J. Soave Co., Inc., Orchard Lake, vice president; Howard Hicks, Ebeling & Hicks, Inc., Romeo, secretary; Joe Forte, G. Forte Co., St. Clair Shores, assistant secretary; MCAA vice president Robert Ebeling, Ebeling & Hicks, Inc., treasurer, and Dwight Lewis, Rohn Fireproofing Co., Oak Park, assistant treasurer.
New Washington Officers
The Masonry Institute of Washington, Seattle, has elected Barney Barkshire as president for the 1975 term. Elected with him were LeRoy Tarp. vice president; Bill Blackstock, secretary, and J. B. Nelsen, treasurer.
BIA Appoints Burklund Marketing Director
The most recent addition to the staff of the Brick Institute of America is J. Bruce Burklund, who has been named director of the marketing promotion division.
Prior to joining BIA Burklund was editor of management communications and a media and public information specialist with the Potomoc Electric Power Co. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, he attended Ohio University where he received a bachelor of arts degree "cum laude" and a master of science degree "magna cum laude."
