NEW YORK'S BEST AWARD TO
LONG ISLAND CONTRACTOR

The first in a series of recognition awards for structures in New York City, Nassau and Suffolk Counties which represent the best of everything planning, design, construction was presented for the Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers located in Manhattan's civic center by Metropolitan Brick Masonry Council. Anthony J. Zotollo, President of the Council (on the left) is shown presenting the award to Frank Filloramo, President of Bafill Construction Corporation, Mineola, New York, who was the mason contractor on the project.

The award itself, hand crafted from a brick actually used in the construction is mounted on a walnut base with an engraved copper plate which reads, "Presented to Bafill Construction Corporation, in grateful recognition of their excellent contributions to the enduring architecture of our City and with particular praise for their performance as the mason contractor on the Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers. NEW YORK'S BEST/1975." Similar awards were presented to the project's architect, Gruzen & Partners: the general contractor, Castagna & Son of Manhasset, New York, and to the individual project foremen Sven Swanson and Jack Cavallo, both Long Island residents.
