ST. LOUIS COST INDEX
The St. Louis masonry industry's 1975-78 Cost Index Book, distributed initially at the AIA Central States regional conference, is now available to architects, engineers and others in the building profession from the St. Louis Masonry Development Trust.

Produced by the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis under the direction of Harold H. Maisak, Cost Index chairman, and Fred C. Daues, co-chairman, the revised book contains 34 pages of technical information on all aspects of masonry construction.

Included in the book is the square-foot cost, which should be used for comparison only, for brick and block walls of various widths, glazed tile, clay and gypsum tile, glazed lightweight block and decorative block.

In addition to indicating the square-foot cost of the masonry walls, this edition of the Cost Index Book has been expanded to include more wall illustrations, along with new sections on energy conservation, the sound transmission class of walls and fire resistance in terms of hours, and other qualities of masonry construction.

Sections of the book are also devoted to structural masonry, insulation, brick paving, stone, wall accessories, fireplace standards and mortar recommendations.

Don O. Leonard, MCAA Chapter president, said that the format of the book has been revised to keep it strictly technical so that it will be easier to use by the architect, engineer, developers and others in the industry.

The St. Louis masonry industry has published a cost index book since 1960.
