Murphy Named To Pennsylvania Ave. Development Corporation

Thomas F. Murphy, president of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen, has been appointed by President Ford to the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation.

Murphy is the only labor union official on the Board of the Corporation which is responsible for planning and executing redevelopment of the nation's principal "processional avenue," Pennsylvania Avenue extending from the Capitol to the White House in Washington, D.C.

Efforts to redevelop Pennsylvania Avenue into an appropriate mixture of open space, institutional buildings and commercial and residential structures began in the early 1960s in the Kennedy Administration. Earlier this year, Congress authorized funding of the redevelopment plan and committed the Federal Government to the renewal of the Avenue.

DVMI Brings Masonry To CSI

The Delaware Valley Masonry Institute's exhibit at the recent Construction Specifications Institute's annual convention held at the Philadelphia Civic Center brought to the delegates a display featuring eight actual wall sections showing various types of masonry techniques and construction. Over 1,400 C.S.I. members left their names for receipt of additional information on masonry construction.

DVMI is to be complimented for the attractive and informative display on behalf of the Masonry Industry and for their efforts in supplying technical data and a communications link with the specification writers, designers, engineers and other construction professionals.

Watch It, That Grass Could Be Concrete

Associated Concrete Products introduces a 75 lb. "Turf-Block" with nine openings or "soil chambers" for planting grass and 20 raised supports for vehicle wheel contact. This concept hides the concrete and creates the effect of a greenbelt.

At a distance, Turf-Block is undetectable from ordinary lawn because the upper area is 75% grass. The lower area of each block is 80% concrete. Residential driveways can also be turned into a healthy lawn that is easily mowed and cared for.

Each block measures 17½" wide by 23½" long by 4¼" high. For more details, write or call Associated Concrete Products, Inc., 4301 W. MacArthur Blvd., Santa Ana, CA 92704 (714) 557-7470.
