Michigan Contractors To Meet At Shanty Creek
The annual meeting of the Michigan Mason Contractors Association will be held September 10-12, 1976, at Shanty Creek Lodge in Bellaire, Michigan.
The weekend's scheduled activities will be held on Saturday, September 13-golf tournaments for men and women in the morning, the annual business meeting in the afternoon, and a cocktail party and banquet in the evening.
All Michigan mason contractors are invited to attend. Complete details, including registration information, will be sent by mail.

Officials of Bliss and Laughlin Industries, Inc., Oak Brook, Illinois, have announced the recent formation of Direct Safety Company. The Kansas City. Kansas based firm will offer a complete product line of safety clothing, gear and equipment to help industries conform to safety standards established by OSHA.

Governor Wendell R. Anderson, proclaimed Tuesday, July 20th, as Concrete and Masonry Day in Minnesota. The Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association conducted its "Fourth Annual Project in the Park" at Moir Park, Bloomington, Minn. The project this year consisted of a unique drinking fountain for the handicapped, a small barbecue and a serpentine exposed aggregate side walk.
MIA Elects Officers

Hold Promotional Meeting
The first masonry promotional meeting in the Spokane, Washington area was held recently at the Ridpath Ric Hotel under the sponsorship of the MCAA Spokane Chapter.
Chapter President F. W. Schoultz reports that 92 architects, engineers, and building officials attended the luncheon seminar designed to promote the greater use of masonry construction.
Ray F. Wimer, assisted by Robert R. Fraser, developed the program which included the showing of First Principles and Man From Monticello. Fraser will act as the Chapter's Promotional Director for future activities.
Honor Mal Allen
Malcolm H. Allen, P.E., retired manager of the structures laboratory of the Brick Institute of America, has been elevated to Fellows of the American Ceramic Society during the ACS's 78th annual meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Allen began his career at BIA (when it was known as the Structural Clay Products Institute) in 1949 as chief engineer. He also served as the institute's manager of field engineering and development. He was named manager of structural research in 1962 and director of research in 1966, a position which he held up to his retirement in 1974.
