U. of Calgary Offers Masonry Research Studies

The University of Calgary, Canada, has announced that a limited number of openings are available for graduate studies in masonry in its Department of Civil Engineering, commencing in September, 1977.

Current research in masonry includes test methods for quality control, structural properties and durability; limit states design, and deterioration due to building movement.

IMI Promotion Meeting

The seventh annual Promotion Meeting of the International Masonry Institute (IMI) will be held May 8-11 in the Drake Hotel, Chicago, III.

Structured primarily for staff and labor-management board members of local and regional masonry promotion groups which fund IMI in the United States and Canada, the meeting also is open to others interested in masonry promotion including representatives of national and regional masonry associations and organizations.


BOCA and CBOA Schedule Joint 1977 Conference

In an unprecedented move announced recently by Building Officials & Code Administrators International (BOCA) and the Canadian Building Officials Association (CBOA), the two professional code official organizations have planned a joint annual conference to be held this year in Toronto, Ont., Canada.

The meeting, which will serve as an international forum for the advancement of professional code administration, will be held May 29-June 3 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel.


Ohioans Hold Seminar

More than 120 architects and mason contractors attended the recent one-day seminar presented by the Northeastern Ohio Masonry Institute in Cleveland. The meeting featured presentations on the "M" Factor by Buck Richardson, director of the International Masonry Institute's Masonry Engineering Department, and Cold Weather Construction by Steven Manyo, executive director of NOMI.

Representatives of Waco, Morgen and Safway Steel Products provided additional information on the uses of scaffolding in cold weather construction.
