Allied Craftsmen Local 21 and IIT, arrangements were made to bus second-year architectural students from the institute to the Bricklayers Apprentice Training School at 516 N. Noble St. in Chicago. At the school, the apprentice bricklayers and soon-to-be architects met with a spirit of camaraderie and, after a few minutes, involvement was 100 percent. The students were allowed to feel the textures and weights of masonry units, check the mortar, brick alignment and plumb lines, and generally become knowledgeable in the practical use of masonry in design. The architectural students were encouraged to participate in laying masonry units and even women students became involved.

Famous Band Entertains at Convention
Papa French's Original Dixieland Jazz Band, a lively musical group with a history dating back to the turn of the century, entertained guests at the Annual Banquet during MCAA's 1977 Convention in New Orleans in January. The aggregation thoroughly delighted convention delegates with a large selection of the most popular Dixieland tunes played in authentic foot tapping New Orleans style. The musicians, both old and young, displayed unusual musical talent and were roundly applauded by the audience.
