MCAA CONFERENCE PROGRESS REPORT

President Robert Ebeling has announced that two distinguished speakers have accepted invitations to address the 78 MCAA International Masonry Conference scheduled for March 11-16 in Las Vegas:

GSA Administrator Jay Solomon (please turn to page 11 for additional details) and Hugh Burgess, Dean of the College of Architecture, Arizona State University. Dean Burgess is one of the leading educators in the field of architecture in the United States and is presently a member of the International Masonry Institute's Architectural Education Advisory Council.

President Ebeling also indicated that construction of the Hilton Pavilion-where all MCAA Conference functions as well as the Educational Trade Show and Masonry Industry Showcase will be held-was completed on October 1 and is now fully operational. An architectural delight, the $7.5 million Pavilion is directly connected to MCAA's Conference hotel, the Las Vegas Hilton, and easily accessible to all conferees.

Your attention is called to the Advance Registration Form on the preceding page. It contains all the essential information on registering for the Conference. You are reminded that by registering before March 1, you will save a full $10.00 on the standard fee and have some extra pocket money to take to Las Vegas. It's an extra reward for being an Early Bird and assures you of trouble-free admission to the Conference.

A special note to Canadian Registrants-Do Not use the Advance Registration Form in this issue of Masonry. This is solely for MCAA Members in the United States. CMCA Members and other attendees from Canada must register with and send cheques directly to the CMCA Office at 134 Oakdale Rd., Downsview, Ontario M3N 1V9. The necessary forms will be mailed to all CMCA Members and other interested individuals under separate cover.

What to Wear in Las Vegas

It is really easy to decide what kind of wardrobe to pack when you come to Las Vegas, since anything goes-from funky to high fashion.

There are only two basic seasons to dress for in the desert, so a trip to Las Vegas depends on whether it is summer or winter, there being no distinct spring and fall. MCAA's Conference will be in March and, of course, will call for modified winter garb in that area of the country.

For daytime wear, lightweight casual clothing is recommended for maximum comfort. Daytime Las Vegas is strictly informal when it comes to dressing. For evening, lightweight dress is advisable, but if a show is on your agenda, men should wear a tie and jacket, and cocktail dresses are appropriate for the ladies.

Visitors from nearly anywhere outside the Southwest will enjoy the low humidity, often below 10 percent. Nevada's mild winters, which last from October through March, feature comfortable daytime temperatures in the 50's and 60's but few freezes at night again combined with low humidity.
