SUMMER BOARD MEETING
continued from page 20
Adopted a new series of hand signals, as developed by the Material Handling/Safety Committees, for use with fork lifts on masonry projects. It was the Board's consensus that the signals be available in single sheets and that they be printed as soon as possible in the Association's publication, MASONRY. The Board also approved the committees joint project to develop a slide presentation to supplement the Rough Terrain Fork Lift Safety Training Manual.
Turn to page 25 of this issue of MASONRY where the hand signals are printed for the first time.
Unanimously accepted the slate of Nominating Committee members presented by President Ebeling. The members are: David B. Soloff, Jr., chairman: Charles F. Velardo, Gerald Dufour, Don Leonard and Blaine Warner with Eugene George and Louis J. Helbert, Jr. serving as alternates.
Approved the 1977-78 financial budget as presented by Robert Tubesing, chairman, and Robert Harrison, vice chairman of the Finance Committee. This committee also presented to the Board a proposed continuing program to maintain a more stable financial position by the Association. The Finance Committee had earlier adopted this program and recommended it to the Constitution & Bylaws Committee for consideration. The program was reported out favorably by that committee for presentation to the Executive Board and at the next Annual Meeting.
Heard a report from Education Committee chairman Robert Harrison announcing the new series of educational seminars to be held throughout the United States and Canada over the next nine months. (The initial schedule appears elsewhere in this issue.)
In other action, the Executive Board created a new MCAA Metric Study Committee. This body will be primarily responsible for investigating and reporting to the Board and to the membership the status of metric conversion in the United States and Canada, and recommending and developing methods to facilitate the conversion. Staffing the committee are: R. E. Beaupre, chairman: Allan Knuth, L. C. Pardue, Jr., Jack Bailey, and Sid Mosman.
The recreational highlights of this year's meeting were the MCAA Executive Board Golf Tournament and the first MCAA International Mixed Doubles Invitational Tennis Tournament. In the latter event, the mixed doubles title went to William Dentinger, who served as the resident pro, and Alice Sutherland. Runners-up were Jerry Dufour and Shirley Dentinger.
In the golf tournament, the Executive Board Trophy winner was Don Leonard, with "Mickey" Soloff taking the low gross honors. Two impromptu awards also were given to Bill Dentinger for the "Most Diligent Golfer" and to Eugene George for the "Most Surprising Participant."
All of the golfers had unusually high praise for the Alpine golf course and its challenging layout. Featuring elevated tees, the course winds continuously down the west side of Boyne Mountain from the first tee to the 18th green on the shores of Deer Lake. The vertical drop is 650 feet but no climbing is involved. The golf cart trail to the first tee at the mountain top is a spectacular nature trail in itself.
All of those in attendance at the meeting also thoroughly enjoyed the warm and genial hospitality displayed by the hosting members of the Michigan Mason Contractors Association, and extended a special tip of the hat to Edgar Boettcher, Jr., chairman of MMCA, for his part in rolling out the welcome mat for MCAA members and their wives.
The Fall Executive Board meeting, it was announced, will be held at the Kiandra Talisman Lodge, Vail, Colo., October 6-9.
