Six U.S. Promotion Groups Now Affiliated With IMI

The International Masonry Institute's program of having local/regional promotion groups, which meet certain administrative and ethical standards, become affiliated with IMI is off to a fast start. To date six groups have submitted applications which meet IMI's affiliation standards. Several others are in the review process. "It is the feeling of the IMI Board that the new affiliation policy is a step forward for the industry," commented Charles F. Velardo, chairman of IMI's Board of Trustees and Advisors. "When it is implemented, it will make the industry's promotion efforts even more effective than now."

The groups which have been accepted by the IMI Board as affiliates are: Texas Masonry Institute, Chicago Masonry Institute. Masonry Institute of Houston/Galveston, Masonry Institute of St. Louis, Masonry Promotion Fund of Lake County (III.), and the Masonry Industry Fund of Northwest Indiana.

New IMI Design Film Premiered in Chicago

The newest in IMI's growing library of architectural/masonry films was premiered on May 9 at the seventh annual Promotion Meeting of IMI in the Drake Hotel, Chicago. III. Titled Architects/Architectures, the full color/sound movie runs 40 minutes in length and features internationally known architects Philip Johnson, Ulrich Franzen, George Hartman and Warren Cox.

The idea for the film, which will be given to every accredited school of architecture in the U.S. and Canada, was conceived by IMI's Architectural Advisory Council of four deans of schools of architecture. The film will expose students to the design genius of several of the nation's leading architects and show some outstanding masonry designs created by these architects.
