# St. Louis Holds Risk Management Seminar
The St. Louis Chapter in cooperation with MCAA presented Tom Frisby and his popular Risk Management Course on March 24, 25 at the St. Louis Hilton Inn. Approximately 35 members were in attendance to hear Mr. Frisby's valuable presentation.
MCAA Education Committee Chairman Robert Harrison was assisted by Regional Vice President Donald Leonard and R. J. DeWalle, Sr. President of the St. Louis Chapter is John F. Abeln. III.
# Allan Knuth Heads Mason Contractors of Milwaukee
The Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee at its recent annual meeting elected Allan Knuth of Knuth Masonry as president for 1977-78. Other officers include Tom Miotke of Joseph P. Jansen Co., first vice president: Robert Tubesing of Tubesing Construction Co., second vice president: Fred Treu of Trico Masonry. Inc., secretary, and Lloyd Hamm of Lloyd Hamm, Inc., treasurer.
Other members of the association's board of directors include Glenn Siebert of G. K. Siebert, Inc., and Ray Prossen of Ray Prossen Masonry, Inc. The association consists of 32 mason contractors in the greater Milwaukee area.
# Minnesotans Elect Officers
The Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association, West St. Paul, has elected new officers and board members for the current year. The officers are: Art Goetzke of Jesco, Inc., president; Bill Pearson of G. William Pearson, vice president; Kermit Ruona of Charles M. Freidheim, secretary, and Karen Drescher of Quality Brick & Stone, treasurer.
Representing general contractors on the board of directors are Howard Larsen of Langer Construction and John Palmquist of Roger Sheehy Co.
The concrete and masony contractor representatives are Larry Hines of Hines Bros., Inc.: Mike Frantz of Donald R. Frantz Concrete; Carl O. Benson of Carl O. Benson Construction, and Juel Monson of Juel Monson Concrete & Masonry Construction.
# IMI Honors Past Chairman David Soloff
At the recent Executive Board meeting of the International Masonry Institute, the IMI Trustees and Advisors honored David B. "Mickey" Soloff, Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn., for his term as Chairman of IMI. Soloff holds the handsome plaque presented to him by Thomas F. Murphy (left), President, International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, Washington, D.C., and Charles F. Velardo, Newton Highlands, Mass., present chairman of IMI. The plaque to Soloff is inscribed: "In recognition of the outstanding leadership and dedication to the International Masonry Institute during his two years as Chairman, 1975-1976." Since its founding seven years ago, the IMI has become the primary resource and promotion center for masonry construction in the United States and Canada.
# Gleason Named to Top Post at Brick Institute
John P. Gleason, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce, has been named executive vice president of the Brick Institute of America (BIA), McLean, Va. In making the announcement, Vernon H. Fobes, BIA president, said that Gleason will direct all operations for the Institute, which has more than 100 brick-producing members representing nearly 70 percent of the total production in the nation.
As Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce, a post he held from 1975-77, Gleason helped to establish the Voluntary Energy Conservation Program, an ongoing national effort to encourage and establish effective energy conservation goals and methods in major manufacturing facilities. The brick industry was among the first to participate in the program and already reports energy savings in excess of 17 percent.
# MCAA Estimating Course Conducted by Detroit MCA
The MCAA Estimating Course journeyed to Michigan and the Michigan State University Management Education Center at Troy on April 1 & 2, where featured lecturer Jerry Pope presented "Masonry Estimating for a Profit".
The course was conducted by the Detroit Mason Contractors Association in cooperation with MCAA and was highly received by those in attendance. Executive Director of the Detroit Chapter is James C. Wyatt.
