Form Nebraska Masonry Institute Trust

Erv Rung of Jed Construction, Lincoln, was elected president of the newly chartered Nebraska Masonry Institute Trust in ceremonies held on January 25 in Omaha. The association, which had been operating for nearly three years as a non-profit entity, now plans to secure revenues from its members for the eventual state-wide promotion of brick and concrete block construction.

In addition to Rung, four other trustees will serve as officers for 1978. They are: Ken Church, Ken Church Construction, Omaha; Bob Hall, Hagan & Son Construction, Omaha; Bob White, White Brothers Masonry, Lincoln, and Tom Duffy, Duffy Brothers Construction, Omaha.

Nine advisors from bricklayers' locals and suppliers were also named to counsel the NMI board of trustees.


People & Events

Randy Hauer of Jim Hauer Masonry, Inc. has been elected president of the Unit Masonry Association of Greater Cincinnati. Elected with him were: Tim Krallman, Herman Krallman & Son, vice president, and Louis H. Muhlhofer, Reading Concrete Products, secretary-treasurer. Donald O. Johnson has been named president of the Chas. M. Freidheim Co., St. Louis Park, Minn., manufacturer of autoclave concrete masonry units and continued on page 19.


Architect Honored with "Masonry" Cover Plaque

Harold Van Dine, AIA, vice president of Straub, Van Dine, Dzuirman/Architects, Troy, Mich., receives "Masonry magazine cover plaque from John W. Hart, president of the Detroit Mason Contractors Association. "Masonry," the official magazine of MCAA, recently featured a cover story on the North Hills Christian Reformed Church in Troy. The church, designed by Straub, Van Dine, Dziurman, last year received an M Award for excellence in masonry design from the Masonry Institute of Michigan. MIM president Hart is president of Leidal & Hart Mason Contractors, Inc., Livonia, Mich.

Utah MCA Reelects Travis

Bill Travis of Ogden has been elected to his second term as president of the Mason Contractors Association of Utah. "We've got some bright years ahead of us in this industry, and by working harmoniously together we can truly prosper," commented the personable Travis.


St. Louis MCA Installs Officers for 1978

The Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis, at its recent annual installation dinner dance in the Breckenridge Inn Hotel, installed new officers and trustees for 1978. The ceremony, which was attended by more than 325 persons, was conducted by Robert D. Sloss of D. W. Sloss Masonry, Inc., past-president of the association.

Installed as president was Fred C. Daues, Daues Contracting, Inc. Other officers installed were: Donald C. Grant, Grant Bricklaying Co., Inc., vice president; Edward E. Bach, Sr., Edw. Bach & Sons, Contractors, secretary, and John J. Smith, Smith Masonry Co., treasurer.

Installed as association trustees were: William G. Doorack, Doorack Brick Contracting Co.; James M. Kirk, James M. Kirk Masonry, Inc.; John Klaric, Klaric Contracting Co.; Kenneth Skaggs, B & K Tuckpointing & Caulking Co., and Gilbert Wegener, Gil Wegener, Brick Contracting.


NCMA Elects Top Officers

Milton J. Lee has been elected chairman of the board and Loren E. Santo has been elected chairman of the board-elect of the National Concrete Masonry Association headquartered in McLean, Va. They were installed in office during the association's recent annual convention in Atlanta.

Lee is president and owner of Domine Builders Supply Corp., Rochester, N.Y. Santo is president and general manager of Pumice Products Co., Meridian, Idaho. Both have long been active participants in the work of the association.
