Bend Industries Wins
AIA Exhibit Award
Bend Industries, West Bend, Wis., was awarded first prize for its exhibit at the 1978 convention held recently by the Wisconsin Chapter, American Institute of Architects in Fontana, Wis.
The exhibit was titled "Masonry-The Product for All Seasons" and featured a pictorial display of old concrete and masonry buildings noted for their cultural significance in Wisconsin. These buildings were constructed of "grout" or "grout blocks" which preceded concrete masonry construction as we know it today.
Bend Industries manufactures concrete masonry products as well as being a distributor of clay masonry products.
ANSI Goal: A "Rational"
Nat'l Standards Policy
Completion of the text of a "reasonable and rational" national standards policy, including suggestions for its implementation, is the American National Standards Institute's top priority in 1978, ANSI president Frank J. Feely, Jr. said at the Institute's annual business meeting in Washington, D. C.
Other ANSI goals defined by Feely deal with government and private sector interface in standards development, international standardization, and membership development and retention.
In another address, ANSI executive vice president Donald L. Peyton said the "ideal" international standards system should be voluntary, nongovernmental, and coordinated by a single body.
"Basic to the ultimate success of any meaningful international standards system," Peyton said, "is the need to have decisions taken on the basis of consensus rather than simply on votes."
