St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Milwaukee was one of six recent recipients of "Excellence In Masonry" awards given by the Masonry Institute of Wisconsin. In designing the largest Catholic Church to be built in many years in the Milwaukee area, architects Rugg. Knopp & Lambert, Inc. thought that the structure should appear "massive, monumental, and give the feeling of permanency." Using native stone cut in Mandarin patterns in large and small pieces set at varied levels, the monumental textural effect was created. Small fossils dating back some four million years were found in the stone, which was used both on the exterior and interior. C. Bundy, Jr., Inc., New Berlin, Wisconsin, was the mason contractor.
