ANSI Issues Revised Safety Standards
For Job-made Ladders and Color Codes
The American National Standards Institute has issued revised safety standards intended to protect construction and other workers. One standard deals with job-made wood ladders, and the other with color codes used to mark physical hazards.

Job-made ladders are built on a job site to provide temporary access to work areas. Uniform color coding of potential hazards has proved that workers are much more likely to act spontaneously when confronted with a hazardous situation, thereby preventing or minimizing accidents.

Copies of both standards may be purchased from: Sales Department. ANSI, 1430 Broadway, New York, NY 10018. ANSI A14.4-1979. American National Standard Safety Requirements for Job-Made Ladders, is priced at $5.00 per copy. ANSI Z53.1-1979, American National Standard Safety Color Code for Marking Physical Hazards, is available at $4.00 per copy.

Governor Assists with Masonry Work
Connecticut Governor Ella Grasso wielded a trowel recently in helping to complete masonry work on the huge J. C. Penney distribution center in Manchester. It is the largest structure built in New England in 1979. Louis Donne (2nd from left) is Hartford sales director and project "rep" for Plasticrete Block & Supply Corp. of North Haven, which manufactured nearly $1 million worth of a specially designed ribbed concrete block for the project. Other participants (from left) were Joseph M. Rescigno and Joseph Ciriello, vice president and technical sales director, respectively, of PBS, and Economic Development Commissioner Edward J. Stockton.
