Be prepared for the possibility that your scheduled testimony may be delayed or that the Committee may ask you to verbally summarize your statement in order to save time. Finally, be prepared to handle questions. Answer questions politely, no matter how they are asked, or by whom. And answer them factually. If you don't know the answer to a question, say so. And don't hesitate to say that you don't have an answer with you, but that you will get the answer and make it available for the record.
Rely on Your Association. A final reminder: MCAA wants to, and can, help you but only if it knows what you are doing. Keep us informed-and ask us for assistance. If you do a more effective job of communicating with your Congressman or Senators, it helps all of us in the industry. MCAA should be looked on as a resource and a focal point of government relations activities by mason contractors. We'll keep you informed, and we'll be more effective at our job if you keep us informed.
Masonry Institute Scholarship Winners
Masonry Institute of Michigan scholarship winners for 1979-80 are (pictured from left) Jay Parker, Daniel Durkee and Fred Schreck. Presenting their $750 awards are Karl Greimel (2nd from right), dean of the School of Architecture, Lawrence Institute of Technology, and Frank Soave, secretary of the Detroit MCA and president of the Masonry Institute of Michigan. Durkee won the third annual James R. Snyder Scholarship, Parker the second annual Robert F. Ebeling Scholarship, and Schreck a new scholarship added to the program this year. The scholarships are open to all current and entering students in the School of Architecture at LIT, the nation's largest architectural school in terms of undergraduate enrollment.
BIA Produces Two New Slide Shows
The Brick Institute of America has produced two new slide shows, each with script and audible inaudible pulse cassette. Brick In Landscape Design illustrates the use of brick in a wide variety of settings, such as urban and suburban parks, pedestrian malls, and public and private gardens. When It Comes to Conserving Energy. Brick Makes a Difference is BIA's non-residential energy slide show, technical in nature and intended for the design-professional audience.
