MCAA's Masonry Management Seminars

Enjoy Successful Start in Oak Brook

MCAA kicked off its new series of "Masonry Management For a Profit" seminars with a gratifying turnout at the Oak Brook Hyatt House in Oak Brook, III., September 12-13.

The one and one-half day course, conducted by construction management consultant Jerry F. Pope of Greeley. Colo., is a sequel to Pope's well received seminars on "Masonry Estimating For a Profit." While the estimating seminar was developed to help the mason contractor prepare a proper bid, the management course outlines how to manage that job once the contract has been secured.

The course materials are based on Pope's new manual, Masonry Management For a Profit, his latest reference work designed for construction project managers. Each student attending the course receives a copy of the manual as part of the course materials.

Twelve States Represented

Key personnel of mason contracting firms situated as far away as Texas and Maryland traveled to Oak Brook for the introductory seminar on management. Twelve states were represented by the 33 course participants, including three women who are in various management positions with their companies. The students' oral and written comments about the program ranged from "stimulating" and "perfect approach" to "thoroughly enjoyable" and "a real wealth of information here."
