Award of Excellence-Germantown Municipal Center
Award of Excellence-Germantown Municipal Center, designed by McGehee Nicholson/Burke Architects, Inc., with masonry by Everett W. Cook & Sons, Inc. Award of Excellence The Pink Palace Museum
Award of Excellence The Pink Palace Museum, designed by Thorn Howe Stratton Strong Architects, Inc., with masonry by Everett W. Cook & Sons, Inc. This project consists of a 100,000 sq. ft. addition to an existing museum. The exterior walls are 8" x 8" x 4" brick tile which were used to blend the exterior of the addition with the split-face marble exterior of the existing structure. The same brick masonry of the exterior is used for interior finishes in a number of public spaces. The detailing of the angular walls inside and outside required numerous special shapes with some sills and coping being "precast" and set as units.

Two projects won "Merit" awards-Germantown Post Office and the Winfield Dunn Dental Clinic Building. Both projects were designed by Gassner Nathan & Partners. Architects/Planners, Inc. The jury of architects who selected the winners are from Chicago and are Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. They are John Macsai, who heads his own firm: C. William Brubaker, executive vice president of Perkins & Will Architects, and John 1. Schlossman, principal in the firm of Loebl Schlossman & Hackl, Inc.
