Schiesser Cited for Committee Work
Carl Schiesser (right) of Glenwood Springs, Colo., chairman of MCAA's Education Committee, recently was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation on being selected MCAA Outstanding Committee Chairman for 1980-81. MCAA president Louis J. Helbert Jr. (left) presented the award during MCA of Colorado's Summer Seminar at the Keystone Resort in Colorado in August. Among other activities, Schiesser aided in planning the educational program for MCAA's '81 International Masonry Conference held in Reno, Nev.
Popularity Grows for Concrete Pavers
Santa Ana, Calif. has been added to the list of cities selecting concrete interlocking pavers for sidewalks and crosswalks during urban renewal projects. The 18,000 sq. ft. Santa Ana installation was selected on the basis of the pavers' high strength and durability as well as aesthetic qualities. The units were manufactured in brown tones to meet the local color scheme, which also provides a natural contrasting "danger zone" to warn motorists. In northern climates the less than 5% absorption rate of the pavers virtually eliminates freeze-thaw problems and their chamfered top edges allow for snow removal.
No electoral vote
After giving what he considered a stirring, fact-filled speech, the candidate looked out at his audience and confidently asked, "Now are there any questions?" "Yes," came a voice from the rear. "Who else is running?"
