Californian Lloyd Hall
Succumbs to Cancer
The masonry industry is saddened by the death of Lloyd M. Hall, president of the California Chapter of MCAA, who succumbed to cancer June 21.
Mr. Hall was president of the California Conference of Mason Contractor Associations from 1978-79 and 1980 president of the Construction Industry Council of California which represented all the California statewide contractor associations.
He served for many years on the Brick & Tile Apprenticeship Committee of California, and each year the "Lloyd Hall Perpetual Trophy" is presented to the winner of the California State Apprenticeship Contest.
Mr. Hall had been a mason contractor more than 30 years in Downey, Calif., and had planned to retire to Santa Rosa, Calif., this year.
He is survived by his wife, Elvi: a daughter. Lloydene Fisher, and a granddaughter, Lisa Fisher, all of Santa Rosa.
CSI Builds Offices
The Construction Specifications Institute, presently headquartered in Washington, D.C., plans to build a new facility at Madison and St. Asaph Sts. in Alexandria, Va.
The design calls for the 30,000 sq. ft., rectangular concrete structure with brick veneer to be compatible with the area's colonial style architecture.

Meetings Slated by IMI
Ray Lackey, executive director of the International Masonry Institute, Washington. D.C., has announced the fall schedule of local/regional labor management masonry promotion group meetings under the new Market Development Program of IMI:
October 20-21. Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver, B.C.: October 26-27. Hyatt Regency Dearborn. Detroit, Mich.. and November 2-3, Loew's Anatole, Dallas, Tex. The first day is for afternoon arrival, with a business meeting for all of the second day.

ASTM Honors Wanner
for Work with Masonry
Edwin F. Wanner, retired chief engineer and a consultant to the Technical Services Department of Glen-Gery Corp., Pittsburgh, Pa., has been given the American Society for Testing & Materials' 1981 Award of Merit. The award automatically names the recipient a Fellow of the society.
Wanner was recognized for his 38 years' service to voluntary standards development in the masonry field. He has been a long-standing member of ASTM's Committee C-15 on Manufactured Masonry Units and before that served on Committee C-12 on Mortar for Unit Masonry.

Dick Wanta is the new secretary of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Mason Contractors Association of America John V. Baucom has been elevated by W.R. Bonsal Co., Charlotte, N.C., to sales manager of its Construction Division... Arthur Stauber, former v.p. of manufacturing for Calaveras cement, has been named to a similar post with Genstar Cement & Lime Co., San Francisco, Calif., for all its cement and lime operations. Henry Blanton Jr. has been appointed regional field sales manager for the midwestern and eastern markets for Interpace Corp.'s Slimbrick product line.
Masonry Course Given
at U. of Minnesota
For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Minnesota offered its credit course on "Design of Masonry Structures" to mason contractors. practicing architects and engineers, and students.
The 10-week course, which began June 15, is valued at four degree credits and covers topics such as masonry materials and their production, mortars and grouts.
Passive Solar Seminars
Scheduled for Chicago
"Passive Solar Now! With Masonry. A Practical Approach" is the title chosen for two identical seminars to be held on successive days in Chicago and suburban Oak Brook, III., Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 1981.
