Equipment Distributors
Predict Business Rise
U.S. construction equipment distributors forecast a modest improvement in business in the last half of 1982, with industry-wide gross sales expected to top 1981 by a median of 5%, according to a survey by the Associated Equipment Distributors. More than 400 firms participated in the nationwide poll conducted by the trade association of construction equipment distributors and manufacturers.

MCAA Pre-Conference
Seminar Expanded
MCAA's Pre-Conference Seminar, scheduled for Friday morning, February 12, 1982, at the Orlando Hyatt House, Orlando, Fla., has been expanded to cover all facets of masonry panel construction and has been re-titled "Panelization/Brick & Stone/Fabrication, Erection, and Related Details." The one-day presentation initially was designed to deal only with anchorage systems for masonry panels. Eight speakers-all experienced in masonry panel fabrication, erection and design concepts in various regions of the U.S. and Canada-will make presentations dealing with their specific findings. The program is being presented by the MCAA Education and Masonry Panel Committees. George C. Hanson, P.E., will serve as moderator.

Mason Contractor W.P. Howle Honored
MCAA state chairman W.P. Howle, president of W.P. Howle Brick Contractors, Inc., Wichita Falls, Texas, was honored recently in Oklahoma City, Okla., by three masonry organizations for his many contributions in promoting the industry. He received plaques and words of commendation and appreciation from the following groups:
* Mason Contractors Association of America, for his more than 25 years of membership in the association; presentation by Paul LaVene, executive director. Oklahoma Masonry Institute, in the absence of George A. Miller, MCAA vice president.
* Mason Contractors Association of Oklahoma, for his charter membership and continued support in promoting masonry by establishing an additional scholarship: presentation by Charles Warehime, MCAO president.
* International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, for his 51 years as a card-carrying bricklayer: presentation by BAC special deputy Wayne Carpenter. Raymond Allen, business agent of BAC Local #1, Oklahoma City, attended the presentation ceremonies.

G. David Guerrero has been appointed director of engineering services for Koehring Co., Milwaukee, Wis.... Portec, Oak Brook, Ill., manufacturer of engineered products for the construction and material handling industries, has formed a Construction Equipment Division made up of its Pioneer Division and Kolberg Manufacturing Corp. Arthur E. Rowe has been named general manager of the new division. MCAA state chairman Tony Nolfi of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., is out of the hospital, where he had spent 19 days, and is back in the mainstream of activity.
MCAA past president Charles F. Velardo of Newton Highlands, Mass., has shed his cane and is doing business as usual after suffering a painful leg injury... Metropolitan Ceramics, Canton, Ohio, has appointed Boyd Stauffer Jr. as district sales manager in eastern Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware, and named John S.
