The program format for this year's MCAA Conference has been shortened and streamlined, and it packs a lot of functions and information into a minimal time period. Starting with business meetings on Monday, February 21, and extending to the Annual Meeting and Executive Board Meeting on Thursday, the program is expected to be brisk, fast-paced and appeal to everyone involved with masonry construction.
The featured speakers for this year's Conference are among the most knowledgeable in the construction field- Dr. John T. Dunlop, John R. Mock, AIA, and George L. Plumb, Esq.
Dr. Dunlop, who is currently the dean of the School of Business at Harvard University, will deliver the keynote address. A nationally recognized authority on labor/management matters, Dr. Dunlop is the former Secretary of Labor who served under President Gerald Ford. He is the impartial member chairman on the Labor/Management Board of the International Masonry Institute and is in the same capacity on labor/management committees of other industries throughout the United States.
John R. Mock is president of the architectural firm of Hendrick & Mock in San Diego. A graduate of the University of Detroit with a degree in architectural engineering, he was bestowed the title of "Mr. Masonry" in 1974 by the Mason Contractors Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties for his research in loadbearing masonry systems in highrise structures, one of his prime areas of expertise. He also serves as a consultant on highrise life safety systems and handicapped compliance for the California Hotel/Motel Association and is a member of the Advisory Council to the Masonry Research Foundation.
George Plumb, MCAA's legal counsel for more than 20 years, is an acknowledged authority on labor/management relations. He will discuss the impact of recent National Labor Relations Board decisions as they apply to MCAA members, the Association, and the masonry industry.
MCAA president Don Leonard will present his annual President's Report at the Opening Session on Tuesday morning, providing insight into the programs underway in the Association and set new goals for the 80s.
One of MCAA's most popular and informative events- the Masonry Industry Showcase-will be presented on Wednesday, February 23, on the grounds of the Town & Country Hotel complex. Some of the nation's leading manufacturers of masonry construction equipment will again put their machines through the paces in live demonstrations. MCAA ladies, too, will find the Showcase an extremely educational and a fascinating event to watch.
Social events have not been overlooked either. Wednesday evening will feature a festive theme party in lieu of the annual banquet, and a breakfast snack session will be held on Thursday morning. The President's Reception will take place at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, immediately following the close of the Opening Session of the Conference.
For those wishing to play golf or tennis, the annual MCAA tournaments for these events will take place on Sunday, February 20. Those who will not participate can attend the final day of the Andy Williams Golf Tournament or visit San Diego's many wonderful attractions.
And the Conference registration fees are among the lowest of any association's annual affairs. In fact, they're a real bargain! Compare them with other functions you have attended recently and you'll be readily convinced that MCAA's fees are a genuine value in today's troubled economy.
The Conference program on the succeeding pages of this issue provides an outline of the activities scheduled for San Diego from February 19th through the 24th. Plan on being there. It is something you won't want to miss.
