Vanguard Manufacturing. Inc., New Ipswich, N.H., has announced the appointment of William E. Kuse as national sales manager and the completion of an additional manufacturing facility of 31,000 sq. ft. Vanguard, a division of Lynn Ladder & Scaffolding Co., Inc., Lynn, Mass., manufactures a complete line of steel scaffolding. Fred H. Prather, FARA, who heads his own design firm in Chicago, is the newly elected president of the Society of American Registered Architects.

Travelers to many of the nation's major airports will see a new advertisement in the terminals saying, "Same Company, New Name... A-T-O, Inc.... Figgie International." Figgie International is the new corporate name of A-T-O, of which Essick Manufacturing Co. is a division. Essick manufactures a wide line of concrete/mortar mixers and has been a longtime exhibitor at MCAA Trade Shows.

Porter D. Leighton, a real estate brokerage and property management executive, has been named deputy administrator of GSA's New England Region. Joel B. Stronberg has been named government relations director for the Brick Institute of America in Washington, D.C. Frank P. Nichols, Jr., vice president of engineering, National Crushed Stone Association, has been named a 1982 recipient of the ASTM Award of Merit.

Oklahoma State U. Receives IMI Slides
John H. Bryant (left), head of Oklahoma State University's School of Architecture, accepts slide cassettes of noted architect Henry Hobson Richardson's 10 most significant works from Paul LaVene, executive director of the Oklahoma Masonry Institute. The 102 color slides in the audio-visual presentation, produced by the International Masonry Institute, show the variety of original details in masonry created by Richardson, considered to be America's most original 19th century architect.

in masonry construction, including such subjects as the architectural potential of masonry, prefabricated masonry, masonry structural systems, and new research projects.

The intensive two-day program was held in Albany, N.Y., and sponsored by the Empire State Masonry Institute, Brick Institute of America/Mid East Region, and Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Among the speakers were Richard Gensert, P.E., a leading authority on engineered masonry: Dr. Russell Brown. Clemson University; Kevin Callahan, P.E., National Concrete Masonry Association: Alan Yorkdale, P.E., vice president of engineering. BIA, and Bill Vetovitz, mason contractor and a recognized authority on prefabricated masonry.

The workshop was one of a series of such programs being conducted throughout the United States.
