An impressive serpentine glass block wall is one of the interior design features of the new Northwest Wing of Miami Valley Hospital. The hospital's two-story lobby is primarily of glass block, creating an airy and light atmosphere.
Architects and Mason Contractors Honored by Masonry Institute of Dayton
The addition to Miami Valley Hospital, as seen from the city of Dayton, tends to unify the hospital campus surrounding the main building. The all-masonry structure is part of a $65 million building program begun in 1980.
John Reutschle & Associates and the Ritchie Organization captured the two top Architectural Excellence In Masonry Awards presented recently by the Masonry Institute of Dayton, Ohio. It was the 11th year for the annual awards program.
Ruetschle & Associates was honored for its design of the Sabre Systems office building, a two-story structure. Honored with Ruetschle were Richard Shell Associates, who won the Award of Excellence In Engineering, and mason contractor KMCO Masonry, Inc., winner of the Craftsmanship Award.
The Ritchie Organization was recognized for its design of the addition to Miami Valley Hospital. Richard Shell Associates won the engineering award, and the craftsmanship award went jointly to KMCO Masonry and Hoying Masonry.
Awards for outstanding architectural design were presented to: Levin, Porter & Associates (Special Award for Block) for the Penny-Ohlman-Neiman building; Fred Forbes, Architects (Award of Merit) for the Greene County Mental Health Facility; John Ruetschle & Associates (Masonry
