Building Restoration Course Offered
A five-day restoration skills training workshop oriented to masonry industry personnel has been scheduled for March 12-16 at Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Va., by Restore.
The Restore program, which is sponsored by MCAA, the International Masonry Institute, the Bricklayers Union and the Mechanics Institute, is designed to teach state-of-the-art architectural restoration skills and preservation technology to craftsmen, contractors, architects, engineers and others in the building trades.

DeHeer Chosen Head of Marble Institute
Ron DeHeer of Buehner Concrete Co., Salt Lake City, Utah, has been elected president of the Marble Institute of America, Farmington, Mich.
Other newly elected officers include Malcolm S. Cohen, Domestic Marble & Stone Corp., New York, N.Y., vice president, and Edward M. Burkhart. Marble Craft, St. Louis, Mo., secretary. Jeffrey Matthews, M. L. Walker & Associates, Atlanta, Ga., continues as treasurer.
Nat'l Gypsum Acquires Austin Company
National Gypsum Co., Dallas, Texas, has agreed to acquire The Austin Co., Cleveland, Ohio, in exchange for common stock of National Gypsum having a market value of approximately $34 million, both firms have announced.
National Gypsum Co. is a diversified producer and supplier of products and services for the construction and shelter markets. Austin Co.'s services include design, engineering, architecture and construction of commercial and industrial facilities throughout the U.S. and eight foreign countries.
Interstate Introduces New Brick Color
Interstate Brick Co., Salt Lake City, Utah, has introduced a new color to its Atlas brick line. Atlas is the trade name for the firm's 12" and 16" long, loadbearing brick commonly used in multilevel buildings.
The new color is is called Ironstone and is dark maroon/brown in appearance. It also has a unique flashed look that creates a slight variation from brick to brick and is said to be in significant demand by many architects and design professionals.
