masonry. Sadly enough, some A/E schools offer very little training in masonry design and construction."
IMI's Market Development Program is currently developing computer programs to aid in designing masonry structures. The programs, in the form of silicon memory storage modules or "chips," will feature masonry wall and loadbearing design in addition to passive solar analysis.
Targeted to small and medium-sized architectural, design and engineering firms, the design aids will make it easier, cheaper and more efficient to specify masonry for buildings and building components.
The Opening Session on Tuesday officially launched MCAA's '83 Conference, with President Don Leonard presiding. An impressive ceremony consisting of the presentation of colors by a U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance preceded the invocation given by the Rev. Richard L. Duncan of the United Church of Christ in San Diego.
President Leonard then gave his annual report to the membership, in which he addressed a number of vital issues involving MCAA and the masonry industry in general. The complete text of his remarks follows this Conference report.
The keynote speaker was economist Dr. John T. Dunlop
John R. Mock, Hendrick & Mock Architects, San Diego.
MCAA legal counsel George L. Plumb, Chicago.
