William White, president of Hugh J. Baker Co., has been elected president of the Scaffolding, Shoring & Forming Institute. Mel Hamilton, AIA, has been elected v.p. and officer-in-charge of the Chicago office of ISD Inc.... Hertz Equipment Rental & Leasing has opened its first overseas operation in Singapore. The company says it plans to expand soon to Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Hong Kong.
Bion D. Howard, formerly an environmental engineer with Vitro Laboratories, Silver Spring. Md., has joined the engineering staff of the National Concrete Masonry Association. He replaces Stephen Heiben who recently resigned to go into private practice with an architectural firm... Richard A. Schwebel has been promoted to vice president/construction equipment marketing (North America) for JI Case, Racine, Wis. In a related move, James L. Miller assisted in the formation of MCAA in 1950 and since that time has been its chief executive officer. He currently serves as a trustee of the International Masonry Institute and is secretary of the Masonry Research Foundation. He also is a trustee of the Bricklayers & Trowel Trades International Pension Fund.
In 1970 Miller was appointed a member of the Collective Bargaining Committee In Construction and subsequently was named by President Nixon as a management member of the Construction Industry Stabilization Committee. He was then again appointed by President Ford as a member of the Collective Bargaining Committee In Construction.
Dagostino and Stewart Named Top NCMA Officers
Kenneth A. Dagostino has been named board chairman and Clyde L. Stewart has been designated board chairman-elect of the National Concrete Masonry Association. They were installed in office during the association's recent annual convention in Dallas, Texas.
Dagostino is secretary/treasurer of Dagostino Building Block, Inc., Schenectady, N.Y. He has served as a director and executive committee member of the NCMA and as a member of several of its committees. He also has been NCMA's special representative to the Concrete Producers Association of Canada.
Stewart is general manager of the Colorado Concrete Manufacturing Co., Colorado Springs. He was also concrete products engineer for the Portland Cement Association and field engineer with the U.S. Corps of Engineers.
Angelus Block Co. Buys Gen. Concrete Products
Angelus Block Co., Inc., Sun Valley. Calif., manufacturer of concrete masonry units, has announced the purchase of General Concrete Products, Inc., Van Nuys, Calif. General Concrete will continue to operate its Van Nuys plant as a subsidiary of Angelus.
In addition to manufacturing "Slumpstone" block. General Concrete will also serve as representative for Pittsburgh-Corning glass block in Southern California and Nevada.
Rhault

Rhault will head a multi-faceted program designed to promote masonry materials and the skills and experience of union masonry craftsmen and contractors. His office in Boston will be a source of information on designing and building with masonry for architects, engineers, builders and building owners in the Massachusetts area.
Before joining IMI, Rhault was a designer/project manager on a variety of building projects in the Boston area. Previously, he was a consultant to Michael Prodanou & Associates, Architects. Rhault has also worked in sales and marketing for General Foods Corp. in the New York-based firm's Maxwell House Division, and has lectured in marketing and advertising at Newbury Junior College.
Formerly of Marblehead, Mass., and Pawtucket, R.I., Rhault now lives in Boston. He graduated from Suffolk University, Boston, with an MBA degree, and from Bryant College, Smithfield, R.I., with a BS/BA degree in management.

3rd Canadian Symposium On Masonry Scheduled
The third Canadian Masonry Symposium, jointly sponsored by the University of Alberta's Department of Civil Engineering and the masonry industry of Alberta, will be held at the Westin Hotel, Edmonton, Alberta, June 6-8, 1983.
The three-day conference will provide a forum for exchanging information on all aspects of the masonry industry by designers, contractors, manufacturers, researchers and educators. It will focus attention on the latest developments in the field of masonry relating to codes and standards research, manufacturing and construction.
