ASC to Hold Legislative Conference in 1985
A legislative conference designed specifically for construction specialty contractors will be held April 14-16, 1985, at the Marriott Hotel on Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C., according to Robert L. Wilkinson, president of ASC.
The Conference theme will be "Subcontractors on Capitol Hill" and will concentrate on lobbying and advocacy of issues particularly affecting the specialty contracting industries. Issue and lobbying orientation sessions are planned as well as a number of meetings with representatives and senators in the Capitol complex itself.
"While construction industry legislative conferences have been held annually since 1970, they have been directed more toward education and less toward actual advocacy and lobbying of specific issues," Wilkinson explained.
"In addition, these conferences were directed toward a broad spectrum of construction and construction-related industries, which often submerged the interests of the specialty contracting industry. The '85 conference will be designed to remedy those specific flaws in past conferences."

Construction Contracts Reach All-time High
Construction contracting surged in May to an all-time high of $21.9 billion, up 14% from the April rate of contracting.
"Rising interest rates are expected to slow the sizzling pace of the building industry before much longer, but it clearly hasn't happened yet," said George A. Christie, chief economist for McGraw-Hill's F. W. Dodge Division.
