MCA of Spokane Awards Scholarships
The Mason Contractors Association of Spokane recently awarded $1,100 in cash grants to fourth-year architectural students at Washington State University in Pullman. The entire fourth-year class was transported by bus to Cavanaugh's River Inn in Spokane for the awards luncheon. Pictured are the winning students and their instructors (from left): Rafi Samizay, associate professor, Cathy Kraus, winner of $100; Doug Menzies, associate professor, Jeff Moore, winner winner of $200; Caroline Silk, associate professor: Mark Stevens, winner of $300, and Dave Nagahiro, winner of the $500 first-place award. Bob Fraser, promotion director of MCA/Spokane, presented the awards.

Figgie International Consolidates Two Firms
Figgie International, Inc. has announced the consolidation of two of its companies-Essick Manufacturing Co., Los Angeles, Calif., and Scott Huber, Charleston, S.C., effective in March, 1985. The new entity will be known as Scott Huber Essick and be headquartered in Charleston.
Essick manufactures concrete and mortar mixers, material pumps and compaction equipment. Scott Huber produces truck- and pedestal-mounted cranes.
Michael Grant will serve as president of the new operation.
Contemporary Terra Cotta Competition Slated
Architects, designers, artists, students and others interested in terra cotta are invited to participate in a contemporary terra cotta competition and exhibition organized by the National Building Museum, Washington, D.C., with major funding from Ludowici Celadon Co., Inc., New Lexington, Ohio, one of the nation's oldest terra cotta manufacturers.
Entrants will design a modular terra cotta panel for decorative purposes or entire cladding for interior or exterior use. The competition jury will consist of six well-known architects, each of whom will select one winning entry. The winning pieces will be produced in terra cotta by Ludowici Celadon as the basis of a new product line. Winners will receive royalties from the sale of their designs in addition to a cash prize of $750.
The molded pieces and other art related to them will form an exhibition which will open at the National Building Museum in 1985 and will circulate nationally in 1986.
The postmark deadline for receipt of the competition registration fee is February 15, 1985. The postmark deadline for entries is May 1, 1985.
