NCMA Elects New Chairman and President
In its recent election of officers, the National Concrete Masonary Association elected Dale F. Kirchner as board chairman, Fred Adams as chairman-elect, and John A. Heslip as president of the association.
Kirchner is president of Kirchner Industries, Inc., Bridgeton, Mo., a firm serving a large network of distributors with a diversity of building products. The company also is involved in land development.
Adams is president of Adams Concrete Products Co. in North Carolina. He has served as a member of the NCMA board and Executive Committee and is a past-president of the Carolinas Concrete Masonry Association.
John Heslip succeeds Paul Lenchuk who retired as president of NCMA, effective February 2. Heslip previously was president of the Masonry Institute of Michigan, executive director of the Masonry Institute of Northwestern Ohio, and executive secretary of the Concrete Products Guild of Michigan.
Canadian Group Elects Directors

John Kelly, Jr. (MCAA) Dies While Jogging
John B. Kelly, Jr., U.S. Olympic Committee chairman, died March 2 of an apparent heart attack while jogging in Center City, Pa. He was 57.
In a bizarre coincidence, police said Mr. Kelly's brother-in-law, Eugene Conlan, also 57, died of similar circumstances the same day in Philadelphia.
Mr. Kelly, an Olympic bronze medal winner and son of three-time Olympic rowing champion John B. Kelly, Sr., was elected president of the USOC in February of this year.
The brother of the late actress, Princess Grace Kelly. Mr. Kelly won a bronze medal in the 1956 single sculls at Melbourne, Australia. He also competed in the Olympic Games in 1948, 1952 and 1960. In 1947, he won the James E. Sullivan Award as the nation's outstanding amateur athlete.
The elder Kelly, a bricklayer who eventually built a mason contracting firm in Philadelphia, John B. Kelly Inc. (MCAA), won gold medals in the singles and doubles rowing at the 1920 Olympics.
ASTM Symposium
The influence of the increasing alkali content of concrete will be examined at the ASTM Symposium on Alkalies in Concrete to be held June 25 in Los Angeles, Calif., at the Biltmore Hotel.
MCA of Hawaii Installs Officers for 1985
Dennis Enomoto of Dura/Constructors, Inc. was recently installed as president of the Mason Contractors Association of Hawaii.
He succeeds Stanley Wada of Quality Masons, Inc., who assumed a position on the board as immediate past president.
Elected vice president was Alex Neil of Masonry by Alex. Richard Killebrew, RLK Masonry, Inc., is the treasurer and Bob Cambra, Crown Masonry, secretary.
The 1985 directors of the association are Rodney Kaichi, K. Masonry, Inc.; Sam Aquirre, Reef Development of Hawaii: Harry Cornish, Ono Construction, and Hiroyuki Fujioka, Aloha Masonry.
Re-elected as neighbor island director was William Pence of W. F. Pence Masonry, Inc.
Nationwide Construction Contracting Up 2%
Contracting for new construction advanced 2% in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $215.1 billion, reports McGraw-Hill's F. W. Dodge Division.
