Seminar Held on Tall Thin Masonry Walls
James E. Amrhein, S.E., executive director of the Masonry Institute of America, Los Angeles, Calif., was the featured speaker at the recent seminar on "Tall Thin Masonry Walls" sponsored by the Masonry Institute of St. Louis.

Amrhein, who gave a similar presentation at MCAA's 35th Masonry Conference in Las Vegas, has more than 25 years' experience in construction, engineering, teaching, and structural design. In 1983 he received the "Outstanding Engineer Merit Award" from the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering for his contributions to masonry research and education.

ProSoCo, Inc., national manufacturer of proprietary cleaning and weatherproofing treatments for masonry and concrete, has appointed managers to head two product divisions: John Bourne, vice president, is in charge of the Restoration Products Division, South Plainfield, N.J., and Jo Coke is the new manager of the Concrete Products Division, Kansas City, Kans. Tarlton Corp., St. Louis-based commercial and industrial general.
MCAA to Present Course on Computer Assisted Masonry Estimating
MCAA will present its second seminar on Computer Assisted Masonry Estimating to be given July 12-13, 1985, at the Hyatt Oak Brook, Oak Brook, III., a Chicago suburb in close proximity to MCAA's Executive Office.
In a later development, MCAA's Management Institute announced that a third course on this subject will also be presented in New York City, September 18-19. Details to follow.
The course will be patterned after the initial and well received program that was presented prior to MCAA's annual Masonry Conference in Las Vegas last March. The course instructors will be Jerry G. Pope, well-known construction consultant based in Greeley, Colo., and William C. Veneris, president of Interactive Management Systems Corp., Colorado Springs, Colo., a firm specializing in masonry computer systems.
The Oak Brook seminar will be based on the recently published Computer Assisted Estimating Manual which was authored by Pope and Mark Soderberg of Soderberg Masonry, Fort Collins, Colo., in cooperation with MCAA. The Manual is intended for use with micro desktop computer systems and covers areas such as the basic use of computers, basic masonry estimating concepts, the use of computer program spreadsheets in masonry estimating, large and small project estimate examples, and typical formats and printouts.

New Forklift Council Elects First Officers
The newly formed Manufacturers of Rough Terrain Forklifts Council recently elected its first slate of Officers. They are: Herbert McComb, Load Lifter Manufacturing Ltd., Agincourt, Ont., chairman: Tim Metzger, Pettibone Corp., Chicago, III., 1st vice chairman, and Walter Sellick, Sellick Equipment Ltd., Harrow, Ont., 2nd vice chairman.
Morris Versluis, Harlo Products Corp., Grandville, Mich., was elected chairman of the Statistics Committee and M. M. Key, Jr., K-D Manitou, Inc., Waco, Texas, was chosen chairman of the Membership Committee.
