The dinner held on Thursday, February 12, 1987 at Stop 33 of the Sutton Place Hotel, was attended by 214 Architects and Masonry Contractors with their spouses and friends. Mr. Dan McAlister announced that the winning project was the H.J.A. Brown Educational Centre, Mississauga, with architects Shore, Tilbe. Henschel, Irwin, Peters, with Stephen Irwin the Design Architect. The General Contractor was P.C.L. Ltd. and Masonry by DeLuca and Mascarin. Brick was supplied by Canada Brick and block by Primeau Argo Block. The owner of the project is Peel Board of Education.

BEND, AMPRESS MERGE
Two of the nation's major producers of concrete masonry products have merged: Ampress Brick Co., Inc. of Des Plaines, Illinois and Bend Industries, Inc., with headquarters in West Bend, Wisconsin. The announcement was made jointly by Hale W. Olson, president of Ampress and Frederick H. Yahr, president of Bend Industries. Ampress will continue to operate under current management as a member of the Bend Industries' group. In addition to serving as president of Ampress, Olson has been named to the Board of Directors of Bend Industries. Both companies are major suppliers to the construction industry, Ampress since its founding in 1947 and Bend since 1923. They produce a broad selection of architectural and load-bearing concrete block.
"This is a merger in the best sense of the word," Yahr said. "Each company brings to the table unique, yet complementary capabilities and resources. As a team, we'll be able to offer our customers an unmatched selection of products and solutions for any architectural challenge." The new Bend Industries group includes manufacturing facilities in Appleton, Des Plaines, Fond du Lac, Waupun and West Bend.
