HOLD OPEN HOUSE
Over 200 masonry material dealers and contractors enjoyed a rare opportunity to be present at the unveiling of an exciting new brick product and, at the same time, observe how bricks are manufactured. The event occurred March 19, 1987 at Huntington/Pacific Ceramics' Alberhill facility in Lake Elsinore, California. John Burke, Vice President of Sales, Masonry Products, and Al Cunningham, Plant Superintendent, served as hosts in welcoming the dealers for a firsthand look at Olde English face brick as well as a plant tour and catered lunch.

Ahrens Holds Convention
Ahrens Chimney Technique, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, held their 3rd Annual Dealer Convention, March 12-13 in St. Louis, Missouri. The two day convention schedule started with a one day presentation by Paul Ridilla, a nationally known construction business consultant. Day two the Ahrens staff presented their new marketing programs, introduced new products, and had a seminar of profit analyzation.
At the Friday night Awards Banquet, Jack Pixley of Jack Pixley Sweeps, Inc., was presented the "Dealer of the Year" award for 1986. Other dealers honored as part of the top five for 1986 were: Boschen Masonry, Ashland, VA: Advanced Chimney Tech.. Jamestown. MO: Mid-Valley Chimney Liners, Staunton, VA; and The Village Sweep, Jefferson, OH.
Award for outstanding performance in the commercial market was presented to Randy Bruner & Jerry Watterson, Quality Chimney Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Safety Award Winners
Carolina Solite Corp. has won the Expanded Shale Clay and Slate Institute's 1986 Safety Award plaque for the highest number of man hours worked without a lost-time accident. This is the third consecutive year that this plant has either won the plaque or a Certificate of Achievement.
Certificates of Achievement were awarded to the following: Arkansas Lightweight Aggregate Corp.; Northeast Solite Corp.; Solite Corp.: Virginia Solite Co.; Utelite Corp.; Consolidated Concrete Lyd., and Nihon Cement Co. These plants achieved one year of operation without a lost-time accident.
The trouble with some people today is that they are educated beyond their intelligence.
