Workshop On Masonry Research Needs

A three day workshop, entitled "Research Needs for Masonry" was held in Washington, DC on August 28-30, 1988, and was attended by 45 key invited participants from the masonry industry, government agencies and universities. The workshop was organized by Drs. Russell H. Brown and Subhash C. Anand and was supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation to Clemson University.

After five keynote addresses the participants were divided into four specialty working groups-Materials, Productivity, Performance of Buildings, and Environmental Factors. These working groups spent the whole second day discussing the current problems and future research needs in their specific areas. These results were presented to all the participants on the third day of the workshop. The workshop chairmen and recorders then prepared written recommendations for review by the Steering Committee of the workshop. A report which summarizes the research needs established during the workshop is under preparation by the co-chairmen at Clemson University. It will be submitted to the National Science Foundation.
