1990 Looks Good

Construction equipment distributors expect to start the '90s on an upbeat note. The average United States distributor sees a pick up of 4.7% in gross sales above 1989, according to the year-end Associated Equipment Distributors' business conditions survey.

The 1990 forecast exceeds distributors' prediction a year ago, which anticipated a 3.6% sales increase in 1989.

Equipment rentals continue as the leading area for business growth, but distributors also ranked sales of new equipment, used equipment, parts and service business closely behind. Their conclusion seems to indicate that rentals will continue to be brisk but won't substantially outpace other areas of the distribution business in the new decade.

Light equipment distributors which carry a wide variety of smaller product lines are the most optimistic with a 7.8% gain for 1990. Heavy earth-moving equipment distributors are less optimistic.
