Mat Glover
Glover United Masonry
Arvada, Colorado

Working hard to rebuild masonry training and recruitment programs in Colorado after the economic upheavals of the mid-eighties, Mat Glover is a force that won't quit. Glover currently serves as Chairman of the state's Masonry Apprenticeship Committee which is seeking U.S. Department of Labor approval for their training program. They are hoping to receive B.A.T. approval by September when their training program will be in full operation.

Currently there has not been an approved masonry training program in Colorado since 1984.

Glover serves as a Board member of Colorado Industrial Trades Council which is active in recruiting high school students into the trade. Glover is also active in promoting masonry throughout Colorado with service to the Rocky Mountain Masonry Institute where they have recently hired an architect to promote masonry to other architects.



Steve Townsend
Townsend & Schmidt Masonry
Sacramento, California

Currently serving as the President of the Masonry Association of Sacramento, Steve Townsend has been Chairman of the State California Council of Mason Contractors for the past two years.

Since 1980, Townsend has served as Chairman of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee as well as serving on both the American Subcontractors and Associated Builders and Contractors Apprenticeship Committees.

Townsend has attended job fairs at community colleges promoting the masonry industry and the opportunities for careers. In addition, Townsend has worked with VICA and supported apprentice contests.

Townsend, like many other contractors, donated time, labor and material in the building of a community center. Townsend is most proud of the help he provided in the building of a baseball stadium at a local community college as well as helping an Easter Seals building project.



Rennie Tejeda
R & R Masonry
N. Hollywood, California

Rennie Tejeda has been a guiding force for a stronger masonry industry in southern California.

Currently, Tejeda is serving a two year term as Region 'H' Vice President to MCAA. He also is Chairman of the Masonry Institute of America and has been a member of its board for the past 16 years. The MIA, Southern California's promotion arm, has been a strong force for bringing back the use of masonry in California, which had nearly abandoned the use of masonry due to earthquakes and masonry's perceived vulnerability.

Tejeda has been a large promoter of apprenticeship training. He has served for years on the area apprenticeship committee which currently boasts training of nearly 200 apprentices.

Tejeda has donated his time to several charitable organizations including the American Red Cross and the City of Hope Cancer Center.



Robert Smith
Bob Smith Masonry
Fresno, California

Bob Smith currently serves as President of the Fresno Brick and Stone Masonry Association as well as the Chairman of the Masonry Institute of Fresno.

Smith also serves as Chairman for the California Mason Contractors Association. As Chairman of the Masonry Institute, Smith is most proud of the active promotion program in place in the Fresno area. Promotion of masonry in local Construction Specifiers Shows, AIA contests as well as through personal meetings with local inspectors and building officials.

Smith does a wide variety of charitable work, some of which includes donating masonry work to local churches as well as donating a full scholarship to the Fresno State University every year since 1981.



Stan Wada

Aica, Hawaii

It's hard to imagine anything occurring in Hawaii that is not related to relaxation and fun in the sun, but Stan Wada has been a whirlwind of action to build a strong masonry industry in the Hawaiian Islands.

Currently, Wada is a Director on the board of Mason Contractors Association of Hawaii. Wada is active with the Labor Relations Committee and the Hawaii State Contractors Council. He has served on the Membership, Legislative, Promotion, and Technical Committees. Wada has served as Chairman of the Bricklayers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. Wada remains active with promotion and recruitment by working in various high school career days and at Job Corps for troubled and disadvantaged youths.

Wada is active with Child and Family Services in Hawaii as well as donating labor and material to a spouse abuse facility.
