Workshop #1 Grouting Masonry
Date: Monday, February 7 Time: 2:00pm-3:30pm
Speaker: John Chrysler, Executive Director, Masonry Institute of America
Description: The new International Building Code is moving quickly in the requirements of reinforced masonry, and grouting is an essential element of the system. This seminar will share years of construction and code experience in the proper and economical methods of high and low lift grouting, the comparison of partially grouted and solidly grouted systems and effective methods of placement.

Workshop #2 Design/Build versus Competitive Bid
Date: Monday, February 7 Time: 4:00pm-5:30pm
Speaker: Steve Saucerman, Commercial Construction Estimator/Project Manager
Description: According to the Design/Build Institute of America, design/build-as a method of project delivery - currently makes up about 30% of commercial construction building contracts and predicts a 50% market share by the year 2005. In this seminar, Steve Saucerman, a full-time commercial construction estimator/project manager, examines the design/build concept and, in particular, the similarities and big differences between design/build and the old, conventional competitive bid process.

Workshop #3 Construction Productivity Improvement

Speaker: James J. Adrian, President, Adrian International and Construction Systems Company
Description: Productivity, or the lack of it, is perhaps the number one problem confronting the construction firm and manager of the construction process. Documented industrial engineering studies performed by James J. Adrian, Ph.D., PE, CPA indicate that 40-60% of construction field time is spent on non-productive work. In this seminar, Dr. Adrian will illustrate how you can more than triple planned project profitability by means of productivity improvement.

Workshop #4 Subcontracts: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You Pt. I
Date: Wednesday, February 9 Time: 8:00am-9:30am
Speaker: Christopher J. Soelling, Attorney at Law, Law Offices of Short Cressman & Burgess P.L.L.C.
Description: The contract documents should be the first place a contractor looks, but, unfortunately, are often the last. Learn techniques to increase your ability to obtain favorable contract terms, how to read and understand subcontract forms and how to negotiate them to your advantage. Mr. Soelling will continue this topic in more detail in Workshop #6.

Workshop #5 Quality Assurance for the IBC Code

Speaker: Edgar Glock, Executive Director, Masonry Institute of St. Louis
Description: The major concern of code officals is workmanship compliance. Of what should a mason contractor be aware? This seminar will be a discussion about Quality Assurance and Special Inspections of the IBC Code and how it should be implemented.

Description: Attendees will learn techniques to increase their ability to obtain favorable contract terms, how to read and understand subcontract forms and how to negotiate them to their advantage. Mr. Soelling will continue his discussion from Workshop #4; however attendance at Workshop #4 is not required.

Description: In the five years preceding the turn of the century, OSHA has released several standards that have had a significant impact on the way mason contractors do business, and the new century offers no reprieves. Mr. O'Connor, an accredited OSHA Train-the-Trainer, will provide insight on OSHA's enforcement of recently released standards, provide information on the direction OSHA is taking with new rules, and offer suggestions on preventing eitations for existing rules as well as procedures for participaing in the direction of new standards.
