The Opening Reception at Bonnie Springs Old West town saw exhibitors and attendees gathered in their old-west attire to spend an evening amidst the stars. The highlight of the evening, at least for everyone but one, was the mock-hanging of MCAA President Donald Larsen! Needless to say, a good time was had by all!

The following day nearly 600 people gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the official opening of THE MASONRY SHOW. Down the hall another 400 attendees were finishing an enlightening keynote luncheon with Baseball All-Star Jim Bouton while awaiting their chance to view the 35,000 square feet of exhibits.

This year showcased a wider variety of products and greatly concentrated on the significant savings offered by manufacturers for orders placed in Las Vegas. "The excitement has returned to the show floor. The carnival atmosphere we had years back is what we wanted to create again with THE MASONRY SHOW. Exhibitors are here offering prizes, give aways...everyone is laughing and having a good time," said MCAA Executive Director Michael Adelizzi.

One of the crowd-cheering events was the Blockbuster Fastest Trowel contest. Journeyman contestants from around the country gathered to compete in a 20 minute heat for cash prizes and a Mighty Mixer. Winner Jeff Goebel, from Sutter Masonry Inc. in El Mirage, Arizone walked away with First Place for laying 140 block in 15 levels during the 20 minutes. Second place was awarded to Art Canez from Generation Masonry out.
