In October, many MCAA members, masonry leaders and others attended the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) Midyear Meeting held in Asheville, N.C. Like his other decisions, MCAA's President Alan Griffin didn't steer us wrong in picking this beautiful city nestled in his home state.

During this meeting, attendees took the opportunity to continue making headway with several initiatives, such as a national mason contractor certification (see Michael Adelizzi's "Executive Director's Report" on pg. 40), discussing current and future MCAA events and programs, and reaffirming long-range goals.

Not only a great place to conduct business, Asheville proved to be a great city to have some fun in as well. Many of the attendees took to the Grove Park golf course to try their luck, while others got to see the sites on the historic trolley tour. On the third day of the Midyear Meeting, participants received the grand tour of the Biltmore Estate, including the winery, impressive gardens and the magnificent mansion, which is the largest home in the United States. The day came to a close with a fabulous dinner at the Biltmore Stable Café Loft overlooking the Vanderbilt home. I think I can speak for most of the participants when I say it was truly an event to remember.

In several months, the MCAA will have another must-attend event: the 2006 Masonry Showcase in Las Vegas, March 29-31. With 2006 pecking its head around the corner, now's the time to make plans to attend the only event that supports the masonry industry.
