On Monday, August 21, 2006, Mason Contractors Association of America President Frank Campitelli and Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr. extended the OSHA Alliance between the two organizations for another two years. The MCAA signed its Alliance with OSHA in 2004 and for the past two years both organizations have partnered to provide education to contractors and employers on safe work practices. Through the Alliance the industry has had access to a wide range of OSHA safety educational materials and programs as well as access to OSHA's consultation program.

The Alliance has strengthened the image of OSHA to the industry's 20,000 contractors as well as strengthened the image of the industry to OSHA. The MCAA has long sought to dispel the image that mason contractors do not care about the safety and health of their number one resource, their labor force. Several years ago, many within OSHA may have felt that the average contractor cared more about profit than the safety of their workers. Today OSHA sees an association in the Mason Contractors Association of America that will partner with them to develop sound, cost effective and efficient programs that will protect the safety and health of masons and laborers without putting mason contractors out of business.

"The Alliance has been instrumental in putting a new face on OSHA. Before most contractors would have viewed OSHA as the evil empire; today they view OSHA more as a partner which is evidenced through their consultation process," said MCAA President Frank Campitelli. "During the signing ceremony and meeting with OSHA's officers, I was highly impressed with the relationship the MCAA staff and OSHA's staff have developed and the benefit to our industry."

The OSHA-MCAA Alliance can be viewed on our website.
