In memoriam: Eugene George

Words: Eugene George, Patricia GeorgeEugene George passed away peacefully, at age 84 on March 31, 2015, at his residence, after a brief illness. Beloved husband of 61 years to Patricia (Deceased 2013). Loving father of Tom, Patrick (Christine), Joe (Karen), Dan (Jane), Bill (Lisa), Ted (Terrie), Mike (Leah) and Chris (Leanne). Proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren, David (Krista), Jennifer (fiancé Kyle), Katherine, Kevin, Jeff (Aimee), Julie, Jacquie, Janelle, Matthew, Ashley, Melanie, Ryan, Nathan, Brendan, Emma, Justin and Jake and great-grandfather to Lucy. Survived by sisters and brothers Marjorie Karn, Nancy (Garr) Knapp, Mike (Marg) George, Barb (Ron) Nosal, Lucy (Larry) Laba, Jean (Bob) Balahura, Dave (Bev) George, and Linda (Paul) Lehman. Brother-in-law to Adele Helm, Ron (Joanne) McCormick, Pat McCormick and Sophie McCormick. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Mary and James George, brothers Jerome, John and George (King), and brothers-in-law Del Karn, Edward and Will McCormick, Frank Hahn, Eric Houghton and Al Helm, and sisters-in-law Eileen, Joyce, and Jean George, Eleanor Hahn, Audrey (Ray) Hagen, Joan McConnell and Kathleen and Kay McCormick.

Eugene had an endless list of accomplishments, on both a professional level and in the community. Eugene had a successful career as owner of GA Masonry, continuing to work until very recently. Well-respected in the construction industry he was the founding presidents of both the Ontario and Canadian Masonry Contractor Associations. He was also the first Canadian to head both the Mason Contractors Association of America and the International Masonry Institute.

Away from work, Eugene was involved with thoroughbred horses and was a founder of Deer Ridge Golf Club. As those that played hockey with Eugene will know, he was passionate about hockey, and continued to play until as recently as January. As the founding president of the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club he was very proud of the Kitchener Rangers organization and the success they have achieved. Above all Eugene will be remembered for his humility and selfless generosity of time and resources to so many people and organizations.

Even as we mourn, the family will cherish memories and know that the journey we shared with Eugene will always keep our family close. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all friends and family for their prayers, flowers, cards, visits and many acts of kindness shown during the past few weeks.

Although we are going to deeply miss Eugene, we are so thankful to have had Eugene in our lives and remember with great pride and love this truly special man, whose life touched and enhanced so many lives.
