EMSEAL Receives SBANE’s 2010 Innovations Award for Breakthrough Line of Expansion Joints

Words: Dave AfandadorExpansion joint manufacturer EMSEAL Joint Systems Ltd. has won the distinguished 2010 New England Innovations Award for its line of UL-certified, fire-rated expansion joints.

Judges cited EMSEAL’s success at addressing market need and benefiting customers by developing innovative expansion joint products, including the EMSHIELD DFR, EMSHIELD WFR and EMSHIELD SecuritySeal, that are focused on life-safety, sealing performance and streamlined installations.

EMSEAL received the award, presented annually by the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE), during a Gala Awards Dinner attended by more than 450 people at The Westin Waltham Boston on May 13. Lester Hensley, EMSEAL President and CEO, accepted the coveted award.

“We are very proud of this achievement and grateful to SBANE for recognizing that this group of innovative products addresses a real need in the construction and building industry while delivering a top-quality, original solution that changes the way that walls and buildings are sealed,” Hensley said.

EMSEAL joins past New England Innovations Award winners including Staples, ZipCar, Genzyme and iRobot. More than 160 companies were nominated in this year’s corporate competition.

The SBANE’s criteria for winning demanded a compelling idea/technology demonstrating a significant benefit to users and addressing market need or creating a new market. The judges also looked at marketplace success measured by profit, volume, growth rate, customer commitments, user reviews, ROI and market impact.

EMSEAL received the award for its groundbreaking line of UL-certified, fire-rated expansion joints - EMSHIELD DFR, EMSHIELD WFR and EMSHIELD SecuritySeal. Designed for exterior or interior expansion gaps in walls or in floors / decks for office buildings, high rises, stadiums and other large structures, the products offer a 2-hour or 3-hour fire rating in a watertight, single installation product where previously multiple products and installations were needed.

EMSEAL is headquartered in Westborough, Mass. with manufacturing facilities in Westborough and Toronto, Canada. For more information about EMSEAL, call 508-836-0280 or visit the EMSEAL website at www.emseal.com.
